Split Image / Paris, 2016

I was ready to capture a split image of someone walking up or down a passageway when this gentleman walked past me and took a sharp turn to get through a little doorway to the right.

ASSIGNMENT 34

Double Exposure

ASSIGNMENT

Have you ever used the nifty double-exposure function that (likely) comes with your camera? Now you can!

TECHNIQUE

Most cameras have this function, so hopefully yours does too. It’s a function usually found in the drive or menu settings. This allows you to superimpose two frames with intent; you see the second frame as an overlay on the first. It’s a lot of fun to use. Bring intention to this assignment and think about different ways to create a double exposure. For example, you can superimpose the photograph of a person over the photograph of an iconic landmark. This setting is also really fun to use with self-portraits. Experiment in both color and black and white. It’s a fun way to get out of a rut and you can even use it at home if you don’t feel like going out.
